Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg have yet to play a game together for the Dallas Mavericks, but that is projected to change in the next couple of months, and Mavericks fans should be excited about the fact that the star duo has already gotten in the gym together this offseason. They seem ready to turn heads once the season starts.
“Being able to get in the gym with Kyrie this offseason, he’s back healthy,” Flagg said in an interview. “Kyrie is obviously one of the greats, so just to be able to share the floor with him and learn from him on the fly and be able to go out there and compete, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
"I'm excited to get back to playing games and improve a lot."

Flagg and Irving have already been in the lab together
All signs have been pointing in the right direction as far as Irving's recovery from his ACL tear is concerned, but there has been no sort of media available to the public of him working out with Flagg this summer, so it's extremely encouraging to see that Dallas' 34-year-old and 19-year-old superstar have already gotten in the gym together.
Flagg mentioned in the same interview that he has been working on his shot creation, ball handling, and shooting, which are all areas he definitely could've taken a page out of Irving's book from this summer, as Irving is one of the most polished scorers and ball handlers of all time, and is a great veteran mentor for Flagg.
Fans of other teams have been sleeping on this duo, whilst Mavericks fans have been anxiously awaiting for them to take the court, so Flagg's confirmation that he and Irving have already worked out together this summer puts this duo ahead of schedule. If Irving is playing anywhere close to how he was in the stretch right before he got injured and Luka Doncic was traded, he's going to form a scary tandem with a year-two Flagg.
The NBA shouldn't be surprised when this duo makes some noise
This isn't to say the Mavericks have a roster balanced enough to compete for a title, or that Flagg and Irving will be the best duo in the league, but their presence should be enough in itself to elevate this Mavericks team to another 10-15 wins this season at the least, so long as they stay healthy enough.
All this being said, plenty of people in the media and fans across the league are underrating how good the Mavericks can be next season, and Irving and Flagg already getting in the lab together only ups the chemistry they'll have before they even get on the court together during training camp.
As aforementioned, it's hard to imagine the Mavericks could be anywhere close to contenders next season, but with Flagg moving into year two after one of the best rookie seasons in recent memory, and Irving having over 15 months to recover from his torn ACL, there's certainly a world in which Dallas has two All-Stars and makes it back to the playoffs.
