Former Dallas Mavericks point guard Spencer Dinwiddie has begun his career in the international basketball scene, though it’s taking him some time to get his feet under him. Dinwiddie joined Bayern Munich, a professional club that plays out of Germany, for the 2025-26 campaign, but he hasn’t been off to a super hot start.
Dinwiddie is playing fine, and Bayern Munich is giving him plenty of court time, but his efficiency hasn’t been amazing. And for Mavs fans who followed the team closely during Dinwiddie’s time in blue, they know that was a problem for him at times in the NBA, too (especially in recent seasons).
Still, Dinwiddie has plenty of time to figure things out, as it likely will take him some games to get used to playing under new rules (and on a new continent).
How has Spencer Dinwiddie been playing?
So far this season with Bayern Munich, Dinwiddie has appeared in 10 games, starting nine of them and playing 24.0 minutes per contest. He’s playing some of the most minutes on the team alongside Andreas Obst and Vladimir Lucic.
In his first 10 appearances with the club, Dinwiddie has averaged 11.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists while shooting just 38.6% from the field and 32.7% from deep on 5.2 three-point attempts per contest.
Dinwiddie has played in six EuroLeague games for Bayern Munich, and unfortunately, his efficiency has been worse in that competition alone. He has shot just 36.0% from the field and 26.7% from distance in those games.
Still, he’s earning plenty of playing time for Bayern Munich, which indicates they clearly believe in his abilities. His shot should come around at some point.
How was Spencer Dinwiddie’s Mavericks career?
Dinwiddie’s first stint with the Mavericks began mid-way through the 2021-22 season. He was part of the trade that saw Kristaps Porzingis sent to the Washington Wizards. He and Davis Bertans were traded to Dallas in the deal.
He was part of the Mavericks’ 2022 Western Conference finals run but was traded the very next season. Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith were sent to the Brooklyn Nets in a package that netted Kyrie Irving.
Brooklyn then traded him to the Toronto Raptors the next year, but they waived him, and he inked a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Then, in the summer of 2024, he signed a deal to return to the Mavs, where he spent the 2024-25 campaign.
In 155 appearances for the Mavericks, Dinwiddie averaged 14.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists while shooting 44.5% from the field and 37.5% from deep on 5.0 three-point attempts per game.
