Kyrie Irving is expected to make his return from an ACL tear for the Dallas Mavericks this coming season, and it will be the first time Cooper Flagg gets to play with Irving. His presence should fix some of the Mavs' issues that caused them to lose 56 games last season.

Yet, Irving's return alone won't be enough to solve some of the team's woes. Dallas still lacks backcourt depth and stability at center.

Masai Ujiri isn't rushing the Mavericks' future

Masai Ujiri knows there's still much work to be done within his roster. The good news is the new president won't make a desperate trade to solve some of the glaring issues. He isn't going to force moves that don't need to happen. The Mavs' president will be patient until the right deal presents itself.

NBA Insider Chris Haynes recently reported that Ujiri may not be done making moves when talking about the team's current vision. He explained that Dallas isn't desperate to make a quick change, highlighting the team's ability to be patient.

"From what I was told, this was as of yesterday. Masai is very open to doing things, but he won’t make a change just to make a change," Haynes reported. "I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dallas Mavericks have something left up their sleeve."

The team could have its eyes set on a bigger trade or free-agent signing. This means nothing can be ruled out for Ujiri. Simply, "He's always open for business."

This is the perfect vision for the current state of the team, as Cooper Flagg is just entering his second season. Dallas is operating with balance, but they're also not ruling anything out.

This will help them avoid the massive mistake of rushing into a trade that the team doesn't need. Ujiri should wait and see what this team looks like before reshuffling the deck, and it seems like that's what he's going to do.

Mavericks' roster issues are too prominent to ignore

The Mavericks have made some major acquisitions this offseason. Dallas traded for forward Santi Aldama and acquired the rights to Tarik Biberović, whom they later signed to a two-year deal. Both players are excellent shooters who will help solve the Mavs' 3-point shooting struggles. They should provide depth off the bench.

Biberović, for example, might be the team's most underrated move of the summer. He has spent much of his time overseas, as he developed into one of the top 3-point shooters in Europe. Last season, the new Mav split time between the EuroLeague and Turkish BSL, where he made 45.8 percent of his 5.4 3-point attempts per game. It's a stat that should excite Dallas' fans, knowing they finally found a shooter.

Dallas still has other things to be excited about within their roster. One thing the team is looking forward to is Kyrie Irving's return. The Mavs' All-Star will provide a huge boost once he returns, but his presence won't solve everything. Remember, the team struggled heavily without Irving, as they lacked a backup point guard who could fill in for Irving's absence. It's something they have yet to address.

The Mavericks also have an abundance of forwards that can't go unnoticed. Dallas recently drafted Michigan forward Morez Johnson Jr. His addition clogs a frontcourt already full of forwards. This could be bad news for someone like P.J. Washington, as there may not be any room for him at the table. It's a move the Mavs will need to address.

The Mavericks don't need to rush into a blockbuster trade

Whatever move the Dallas Mavericks make, the team knows they must not be desperate. It's a motto Masai Ujiri hopes to stand by. He knows the team is still trying to clean up the mess Nico Harrison made, and the new president understands a desperate trade is not the right move.

Remember, it wasn't too long ago that Dallas was linked to NBA Champion Kawhi Leonard. It was reported that the Mavs had drawn up a trade package centered around P.J. Washington and Klay Thompson in hopes of a deal. The trade, though, never panned out for good reasons, as Dallas avoided a disastrous move.

So, Ujiri knows the Dallas must not make rash decisions. For example, look at teams like the San Antonio Spurs. The Mavs' rival went into a total rebuild and focused on building a contending roster around Victor Wembanyama. They didn't make any drastic moves and let time take its course.

It's something Ujiri knows he must do if he hopes to build something special around Cooper Flagg. The Mavericks know it's way too early to be desperate.
