Luka Doncic will give Lakers the 1 thing the Mavericks cruelly stole from him

The last month has been a whirlwind for Dallas Mavericks fans, as everything has changed more dramatically than anyone could have imagined.

Less than one year removed from the NBA Finals, talking heads are suggesting that the Mavericks blow the team up and start over, and things have gone quickly downhill ever since the team decided to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis. This move shocked the NBA world at the time, and 33 days later, it still feels unbelievable.

No one would have ever expected Dallas to move on from Doncic, and he is making Nico Harrison regret his decision to move him with some stellar performances for the Lakers that are silencing the critics. Over the last three games Doncic is averaging 30.0 points, 9.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from downtown. These dominant performances are making Lakers fans fall in love with the young superstar, and Doncic is already giving the Lakers one thing that the Mavericks didn't have for him.

Luka Doncic is showing the Lakers the loyalty the Mavs didn't give him

Loyalty.

Loyalty has been a key pillar for the Mavericks organization for years ever since they acquired Dirk Nowitzki on draft night and went through the highs and lows with him as their superstar, and this loyalty led them to an NBA Finals win in 2011. Dallas' relentless loyalty to Nowitzki made the city fall in love with him, and he is one of the most beloved athletes in the city's history.

Fans expected the team to show Doncic that same loyalty, as he made it clear he wanted to retire a Maverick, but they decided to trade him out of nowhere in the most unloyal way possible. From leaks about his conditioning, leadership, and off-court habits to not wanting to pay Doncic the supermax extension, Dallas couldn't have made things worse for themselves.

Doncic was so loyal to the franchise, and rather than showing it back to him, they spat in his face on the way out the door. The same loyalty Doncic showed the Mavericks is still in his heart, but now it's for a different team.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Doncic is enjoying his time with the Lakers, and he expects the same loyalty that he showed the Mavericks to carry over to Los Angeles.

"A player coming from abroad, they’re very committed, they’re loyal," Charania said on ESPN's "The Pat McAfee Show" about Doncic. "That’s how he viewed himself with the Mavericks, one team one city forever, and I think that’s gonna carry over to the Lakers. I think he’s loving his time in LA."

Charania continued to talk about how he believes Doncic is loving everything that is coming along with playing for the Lakers as well, as they turn their superstar players into global icons, and that is already happening now. While Doncic was a household name and unanimous top-three player in Dallas, he wasn't as big of a star as he is now and he's only been in LA for a month.

Doncic now gets to play for one of the most valuable franchises in the NBA, and it sounds like he is going to be in Los Angeles for the long haul and build a new dynasty for the Lakers. He was the perfect successor to LeBron James, as he could be retiring within the next few years, and the Lakers couldn't have asked for a better player to take the reins and attempt to lead them back to the NBA Finals.

Doncic is going to be dominating the NBA for years to come, and while Mavericks fans have been supporting him from afar, it would be the ultimate gutpunch to see him win a title with the Lakers as that is exactly what he could have helped Dallas do. Mavericks fans may never get over Harrison deciding to move on from Doncic so prematurely, and him signing a massive contract with the Lakers and seeing him build a legacy in Los Angeles would be tough for them to witness.
