Klay Thompson keeps Mavericks fans guessing with thrilling prediction
By Noah Weber
Dallas Mavericks fans were in shock during the second day of NBA free agency over the summer as it was reported that Klay Thompson would be signing with the Mavs over the Los Angeles Lakers. Mavs fans weren't used to big fish free agents signing with Dallas, and Thompson joining the Mavs to team up with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving marked the biggest free agency signing in franchise history.
Thompson started off his Mavericks career with a bang as he dropped 22 points in his debut, but since then, he has only surpassed the 20-point mark once. His 3-point shooting has cooled off some, but he remains crucial to what the Mavs do due to his excellent confidence and off-ball gravity.
Thompson bounced back from a rough 1-11 shooting night against the Oklahoma City Thunder by knocking down five 3-pointers against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Klay Thompson promises that a breakout performance is on the way
Dallas got Thompson involved early in this game, and they reaped the benefits as he was in rhythm nearly right away. After the game, Thompson spoke about how "staying the course" after a rough game helps him bounce back, and he made a bold promise that Mavs fans will love.
Thompson is confident that his performances in Dallas are only going to get better, and him becoming a more efficient 3-point shooter is just going to make the Mavs more dangerous.
"I’ll have some really big nights here in the future, I can feel it," Thompson said. 'It just takes one great explosive night for me to get rolling."
Thompson knows that big games from him are on the way, and those types of games are going to make the Mavs nearly impossible to beat.
At this point, we pretty much know what Irving and Doncic are going to bring. They both have dominant performances in almost every game and adding a dominant Thompson performance on top of Doncic and Irving’s elite games would mean that Dallas’ offense is firing on all cylinders.
Through 15 games, Thompson is averaging 14.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting 37 percent from downtown, and although he has put up the worst shooting numbers of his career in Dallas, he has shown an ability to get hot and score in bunches.
Thompson is getting more comfortable by the day in Dallas' offense, and his teammates are learning his playstyle more after every game. Doncic admitted that it hasn't been the easiest getting adjusted to playing with Thompson, but he is optimistic about their potential.
Doncic and Thompson have the potential to morph into an incredible duo due to the way that they complement each other's game, and Thompson's big game will be here before we know it. He's confident that he is going to erupt for one of these games soon, and Mavs fans are patiently waiting.
