The moment that the Dallas Mavericks signed John Poulakidas to a two-way contract, fans couldn't wait to see him play. Less than a month later, Jason Kidd has been listening to fans' wishes, and he has officially joined Dallas' rotation as the season winds down.

The Mavericks have just nine games remaining in the regular season, and with them already being eliminated from playoff contention, it's time for Kidd to begin testing various lineups and evaluating all of his young players. They have nothing to lose by giving Poulakidas an expanded role, and he has stepped up in his minutes lately.

Poulakidas is proving that Kidd needs to play him more

Over his last four games as a Maverick, Poulakidas is averaging 6.3 points and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from beyond the arc. He bounced back after going scoreless in his Mavericks debut, and his time with the Texas Legends helped prepare him for the final stretch of the season with Dallas.

Playing under Max Hooper in Frisco got Poulakidas ready to play under the bright lights at the American Airlines Center, and he has looked like a different player after playing five games for Texas in the G League. He shot 44.4 percent from three for the Legends, and his strong showings here have carried over into how he's playing for the Mavericks.

The Yale product has shown flashes that he can develop into a rotational NBA player due to his quick release, confidence, and smooth 3-point jumper, and his performance against the Golden State Warriors earlier this week proved this.

Poulakidas' breakout game against Golden State

A group of Mavericks fans in the upper level directly under the press box at the AAC were chanting "Poulakidas" during his heater in the second quarter, and it didn't take long for fans in attendance to learn his name.

The rookie sharpshooter finished with nine points in 12 minutes while shooting 3-5 from beyond the arc, and the Mavericks outscored Golden State by four points despite losing the game by six points in overtime. He's already one of the most reliable shooters on the team despite only playing in five NBA games, and his off-ball movement is what makes him special.

He never stops moving when the ball isn't in his hands, forcing his defender to always account for him, opening up the floor for the rest of his teammates. This also gives him a better chance of getting open, as Dallas has experimented with different off-ball screens to create open looks for him.

Mavericks fans no longer have to worry about adding more shooting around Cooper Flagg before the season is over, and they'll be even more excited about the team's new 3-point shooter if Kidd plays him more. His role should only increase as the end of the season gets closer, and Kidd could end up pushing for him to remain with the team beyond this season if he continues to light it up from long range.
