The Cooper Flagg era has officially begun for the Dallas Mavericks, and it only took two Summer League games for fans to realize Flagg's full potential in the NBA. Flagg wowed the Las Vegas crowd with just about any play he made on both ends of the floor and even attempted to get up for what would have been an all-time Summer League dunk over one of the San Antonio Spurs players.

While all eyes have been on Cooper Flagg and the Summer League roster, fans couldn't help but notice who was sitting courtside watching Flagg play with some of the Mavericks players. Among some notable players like Brandon Williams, Daniel Gafford, and Caleb Martin, former Mav Kessler Edwards was seen joining some of his Dallas teammates in their courtside seats, which was seen as a surprise to many fans.

Edwards joined the Dallas Mavericks last season on a two-way roster spot and impressed many within the organization for his ability to stay ready and do what was asked of him, no matter the situation that he was dealt. While he outplayed his two-way contract, he remains a free agent.

Kessler Edwards remaining in Mavericks organization seems inevitable

With Edward's joining some of his former teammates in their courtside view of the Mavericks' Summer League game, fans have begun to spark conversation on whether or not Edwards deserves to rejoin the Mavs next season. There's no doubt the former second-round pick deserves to be in the league based on his outstanding play with the Mavericks while playing multiple positions he wouldn't normally play, but they don't have any open roster spots.

The most likely situation seems like Edwards staying within the organization, but with the Texas Legends, as he can't sign a two-way deal anymore since he has been in the NBA for four seasons. Another two-way deal would have been the perfect move for Dallas and Edwards, but unfortunately, that isn't in the cards.

Due to several injuries last season to some of Dallas' rotational players, Edwards got an increased amount of playing time and even started a large chunk of the season for the Mavericks at the center spot. While Edwards' natural position is at the wing spot, due to the severe amount of injuries Dallas faced, he was asked to play a spot on the floor he wouldn't normally play, and he began to impress fans.

By no means did Edwards prove he can be a nightly starter for the Mavericks, but he did impress the coaching staff enough to prove that he could do anything that was asked of him, no matter the situation. While the Mavericks currently don't have another active roster spot open, Edwards could still be in to sign with the Legends and stay within the organization if he doesn't get an offer with another team.

Edwards is currently a free agent and can sign anywhere he chooses, but based on his play last season, he proved to everyone he deserves to be in the NBA.

Edwards did not seem to receive an invite to play on the Mavs' Summer League squad, which could mean he will be in the G League for some more time. If Edwards wants to stay within the Mavericks organization, it may not be a bad thing if he spends another season with the Texas Legends, but if he does receive an offer to play for another team, this could be yet another move fans look at and shake their heads.
