6 Mavericks players who have no room for error in Jason Kidd's rotation
By Noah Weber
3. Maxi Kleber
With Maxi Kleber, you never know what you're going to get.
When he's healthy and fully confident, he's an excellent floor spacer who can play the four or the five and defend multiple positions. When he's playing after an injury or lacks confidence, he can sometimes look unplayable and the defense doesn't respect his jumper.
Kleber enters the 2024-25 season following an ankle injury that he sustained in training camp after stepping on a teammate's foot, and him building some momentum and remaining healthy early on could help lead to him having a great season.
We saw Kleber at his best early in the playoffs last season and later saw him at his worst after he returned from that shoulder injury in the Western Conference Finals, and the Mavs would hugely benefit if he can show off the consistency as a shooter that he displayed in the first-round series against the LA Clippers.
Kleber is unique in the way that he can play the four and the five, but his spot in the rotation is not necessarily safe. If Olivier-Maxence Prosper takes a huge step in his development and can provide consistent productions in his minutes, he is a candidate who could pass Kleber in the rotation. Prosper's energy is always the highest of anyone on the floor, and he has to get minutes in some way or fashion to continue to develop.
Kleber's minutes considerably dropped last season, and more of the same could be on the way if he can't stay healthy or is unproductive.
