NBA MVP Power Rankings: Anthony Davis makes statement in week one action
By Jaren Boslow
The NBA's regular season is in full effect with all 30 franchises getting into action this past week. Many teams have started hot while some fans have already begun to ring the alarm bells just one week into the season.
After an impressive opening-season win against the San Antonio Spurs, the Dallas Mavericks are now facing their first bit of adversity after a concerning 114-102 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night.
Not only did the team suffer a major setback with Maxi Kleber's hamstring injury, but multiple role players have looked sluggish to begin their 2024-25 season campaign.
NBA MVP Power Rankings: Davis makes statement in week one action
While it is just game two of the regular season for Dallas, it's been an important message since the beginning of training camp that the team must get off to a quick start if it wishes to cash in on its championship aspirations.
Despite the 1-1 start, the Mavericks superstars have looked incredible. Luka Doncic not only already has a 40-point performance this season in just two games, but he's flirted with a triple-double in every game he has played. Without Doncic, the team would likely still be searching for their first win of the season.
With it only being the first week of the season, plenty of superstar's stats are either inflated or looking lower than what they normally would halfway through the year.
Despite this, Fans have already begun to get a good glimpse at what the possible MVP race could be looking like throughout the 2024-25 NBA regular season.
10. Joel Embiid
After helping Team USA secure another Gold Medal in the Summer Olympics, Joel Embiid has prioritized his health throughout the offseason. After one week of action, it has become well-known that Embiid may not compete for this season's MVP trophy despite being one of the biggest names in the league.
9. Paolo Banchero
One of the most underrated players in the league has gotten off to a career start this first week of action. Paolo Banchero hasn't just consistently been in the top 10 conversation after the first few games, but he has led his team to an impressive 2-1 start.
8. Anthony Edwards
It's hard to rank players after just three games, but Anthony Edwards will once again be in MVP conversations throughout the season. Edwards began his 24-25 campaign with an eye-opening performance against the Los Angeles Lakers on the first day of action in the NBA.
7. Giannis Antetokounmpo
What could likely be a career-defining season for Giannis Antetokounmpo as a Milwaukee Buck, has started hot. Antetokounmpo has looked very impressive in the games he has played, but the Bucks have already dug themselves into a hole that finds them 1-2 during the first week of action.
6. Nikola Jokic
Nikola Jokic has been about the only positive thing you can talk about when discussing the Denver Nuggets after a few games. Denver had an alarming offseason when they lost multiple pieces from their championship-winning team just a year ago and failed to replace them. Despite this Jokic has kept the team afloat.
