Last week, the Dallas Mavericks parted ways with former general manager Nico Harrison, who had been the subject of controversy. It was a move fans had been begging for. Simply, fans are not over the Luka Doncic trade, and they may never fully move on from it. Fans believed they had the perfect player to help lead them to the promised land, and they felt it was taken away in a flash.

Harrison's reasoning for the trade made no sense. He believed that "defense wins championships," something he felt Anthony Davis brought to the table. However, now that Harrison is fired, it's likely fans could be calling for Davis to be sent away as well. They believe his experiment is flawed and will never achieve the success of Doncic.

It's time to trade him now, and Mavericks fans are hoping that recent rumors of the team looking to trade him come to fruition.

The Mavericks can't move forward with Anthony Davis

Davis' injury history is one of the many reasons fans have expressed doubt in his future with the team. Last season, he played in nine games for Dallas and has only played in five this season. It's a trend Mavs fans are tired of seeing. Many believed he would be back on the court by now, but recent reports indicate it would be another week before he sees any action.

As mentioned, one key thing Harrison overlooked when trading for Davis was his injury history. He has a long list of injuries dating back to his days with the New Orleans Pelicans. This is something Dallas failed to realize and must move on from.

For starters, the team won't win a championship with Davis on their roster. His inability to stay healthy and provide sufficient minutes is hurting the team's long-term goals. Dallas desperately needs a shot-maker and facilitator, and they had this in Doncic. Yet, Davis is far from the things mentioned, as he struggles to be an offensive engine.

It's no wonder trade ideas for Davis have been circulating since Harrison's departure. Many fans and analysts have been creating their own mock trades involving Davis. For example, one idea included sending Davis to the Detroit Pistons to jumpstart the Cooper Flagg era. It's a trade that would make sense for both sides. It would allow Dallas to get younger and get valuable draft picks while moving on from Davis.

Plus, trading Davis would somewhat heal the hearts of fans still upset over the Doncic trade. If you recall, whenever the team fired Harrison, fans rushed to the streets of American Airlines to throw a party filled with hats and music. They even had a cake that stated, "Bring Luka Home."

It's obvious fans may never get over the Doncic trade, meaning they might never fully embrace Anthony Davis either. It's simply a situation that must be solved with a trade. Honestly, the reality is Dallas has lost five of their last six games and sits with a 4-12 record. This is something Davis won't be able to fix, as the likelihood of him coming back and saving the season is slim.

It has been a rough 2025. While the future may be in a limbo, the team can start preparing for a new era of basketball by building around Cooper Flagg and sending Anthony Davis elsewhere. It's a move that must be done soon, as Davis has proven to be a liability and a failed experiment.

Buckle up MFFLs. The team has some tough decisions to make.
