Mavericks fans have been vying for the team to go after Coby White for years, and Dallas finally showed real interest in acquiring him.

The Dallas Mavericks have been tossed out on the fringes as a potential suitor for Chicago Bulls guard Coby White for a few seasons now, but the rumors have seemingly never materialized into any serious reporting. This seems to be changing now, though, as Clutch Points reporter Brett Siegel reported the Mavericks have shown interest in White ahead of the February 5 trade deadline.

White's set to make $12.9 million this season on an expiring deal, so the Mavericks would likely only trade for White if they had some sense of security that he'd be willing to re-sign in Dallas in the offseason. White's 32.4 percent mark from outside would stand as the worst of his career if the season ended today, but he's still been a dynamic playmaker and shot creator for the Bulls this season.

White certainly isn't an elite defender by any means, but he has good length for a guard and is at least average on that end, so he could certainly hold his own at the point of attack for the Mavericks. Being only 25 years old, White could be the guard Dallas rides with into the Flagg era, but White won't come at a small cost.

Mavericks are a legitimate suitor for Coby White

If White were to come to Dallas, it would likely be in an Anthony Davis trade, as the Mavericks don't have the first-round draft capital to go after White himself, and the Bulls have been rumored to have registered interest in Davis. Who knows what the exact structure of such a deal would look like, but the Mavericks would have one of the most dynamic guard rotations in the league if they added White.

Between White, Kyrie Irving (once he returns), Brandon Williams, and Ryan Nembhard, Dallas' guard rotation would go from one of the worst to one of the best in the entire association in less than the span of a season. This may not prove to pay huge dividends right away for the Mavericks, but teams with multiple dynamic shot creators are the ones thriving in the modern NBA, and adding White would put the Mavericks in that same echelon.

Most Mavericks fans are just happy to see Dallas actually have reported interest in White, as fan speculation regarding adding him to the Mavericks has been running rampant for the last few seasons.

White undoubtedly has All-Star potential and potentially hasn't even hit his prime yet, so he'd be great as the centripetal return in a potential Davis trade, but it definitely gets sticky figuring out how to add him to this roster otherwise, unless the Bulls would really want Daniel Gafford back.

If White could get his shooting production up to the level he's been accustomed to throughout his career, Dallas may have two guys with three-level scoring ability in their backcourt between White and Max Christie, so it's definitely an intriguing proposition to consider what White's fit in Dallas would look like.

After multiple seasons of rumors, maybe this is finally the year White finds his way in a Mavericks uniform, as Dallas could use another guard more than ever.
