The American Airlines Center is known for loud "Stars" chants during the two times the word "star" or "stars" is sung during the National Anthem in honor of the Dallas Stars, and Dallas Mavericks fans joined the tradition on opening night on Wednesday night ahead of Cooper Flagg's debut.
Mavs fans shouted "Flagg" when the National Anthem said "flag" to show love to the newest Mavs rookie, and the AAC could have a timeless tradition on their hands that fans are going to love. Dallas sports fans love screaming "Stars" during the Star Spangled Banner, as this can be heard at any event in Dallas, sports or not, and the new Mavericks-based tradition could pick up steam fast.

Mavericks fans are known to be some of the most passionate fans in the city, known for being rowdy, proud, and loud, and this could end up being a beloved tradition that happens before every single game if the fans keep it up beyond this evening.
Mavericks fans show Cooper Flagg love during the National Anthem
Mavericks fans were heartbroken when Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis last season, and while Doncic will always be remembered for his time in Dallas, Flagg now has the chance to lay down the foundation to become a Mavericks legend and one of the faces of the organization and the city.
He is already a huge household name in Dallas, as evidenced by being one of the four players featured on a banner on the side of the AAC (joining Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson), and Mavericks fans fell in love with him before he even played a game. They were looking for someone to cling to after one of the most bizarre trades in sports history went down, and Flagg has been all of that and more.
He began his Mavericks journey with a dominant Summer League, followed that up with a strong preseason, and is now in the middle of his NBA debut against the Spurs. He has all of the tools to become an NBA great one day, and this season will be the first step in turning that dream into a reality.
Mavericks fans made Flagg feel special as soon as he took the hardwood, with oohs and aahs every time he put up a shot or dunked the ball in warmups, and they followed this up with a loud "Flagg" shout during the National Anthem and ovation during the starting five introductions.
Dallas loves their new star rookie, and if this National Anthem trend sticks, Mavericks fans may have created the perfect sign of appreciation for their rookie without even realizing it.
