Ever since the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Mavs fans have been calling for Nico Harrison's job. Harrison was the one who orchestrated the trade with Rob Pelinka to send Doncic to Los Angeles, and "fire Nico" chants have become commonplace across the DFW metroplex.

Fans are disgusted by Harrison's decision to trade Doncic, and this anger likely won't die down anytime soon. The frustration around Harrison's decision intensified when Doncic dropped 45 points in his homecoming game, and depending on how the Mavericks' offseason goes, the anger will only get worse.

His Doncic trade could destroy the Mavericks franchise as we know it for years to come if they can't contend with Davis and Kyrie Irving, and Mavs fans who want Harrison fired soon won't be happy after hearing the newest intel coming from the Mavericks' headquarters.

Patrick Dumont clearly still trusts Nico Harrison as Mavericks GM

Earlier this week, the Mavericks fired Keith Belton and Dionne Calhoun within the team's training department, and these moves revealed something about Harrison and his future in Dallas working under Patrick Dumont.

While Dumont has heard and taken note of the "fire Nico" chants, these moves by Harrison are "the latest suggestion that Harrison, at least to this point, has retained sufficient support (subscription required) from new Mavericks majority owner Patrick Dumont to carry on as the head of Dallas' basketball operations despite the ongoing loud dismay emanating from many Mavericks fans — now at three months and counting — in the wake of the Dončić deal," according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

While it sounds like Dumont is looking to bring in an experienced executive to work alongside Harrison in the front office, Harrison's job seems safe for now. Dumont wouldn't have allowed Harrison to make these moves if he didn't have some level of trust in him, and he will likely at least see his vision out for next season.

Harrison's vision of the Davis-Irving duo along with good defenders around them leading the Mavericks to a title hasn't had a real chance to come to fruition yet since Davis got injured in his Mavs debut and Irving tore his ACL, and the final portion of next season could be Harrison's final hope of keeping his job as the Mavericks GM.

If Dallas fails miserably next season and fails to make any noise in the playoffs, the fans are going to be even more furious than before, and Dumont could end up having tons of pressure on his shoulders to fire Harrison.

The Mavericks are in a tough spot when it comes to Harrison's job, as the decisions he has made over the last few months have included fireable offenses, but firing him now would likely send Dallas into an all-out rebuild just over one year after making the NBA Finals.

There isn't a singular right move for Dumont to make with Harrison, but allowing him to make these decisions this early into the offseason shows that Dumont still trusts Harrison to a certain degree, and he'll likely keep his job for the time being.

Mavericks fans who want Harrison gone may have to wait a while for that to become a possibility, and we'll have you covered with all the latest.
