Cooper Flagg led the Dallas Mavericks to arguably their best win of the season on Tuesday versus the Denver Nuggets, as the freshly turned 19-year-old had 33 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists off 14-21 shooting from the field in a 131-130 win. What was most impressive for Flagg, though, was that he drained 4-6 3-pointers in the contest, as it was readily apparent in the game that the development of Flagg's outside shot could lead to him being one of the best players in the league one day.

This was Flagg's best 3-point shooting game of the season and the most makes he's cashed from outside in a game as well, so while it was pleasantly surprising to see him get it going from downtown to the degree he did in a national television game, the degree of difficulty on his shots from distance is what was even more impressive.

Flagg hit multiple pull-up 3-pointers in this game, also hitting a shot from outside in the second quarter that was multiple feet beyond the arc, as he showed confidence from outside that he hasn't displayed all season.

Cooper Flagg will be unstoppable once he harnesses his 3-point shot

While there are still some mechanical aspects of his shot he may need to tweak going forward, and it's doubtful he'll shoot even close to as good as he did on Tuesday in any other game this season. Tuesday showed how threatening he can be when he is rolling from outside, and this is just the beginning for the young rookie.

Flagg was masterful in all other aspects of this game, nearing a triple-double, but him shooting well from outside seemed to alleviate the pressure he faced on drives when trying to make a play at the rim or distribute, which helped him become effective in all facets of Dallas' offense. Flagg has already proven to be a relentless worker, so it's more of a matter of if, not when, in terms of when his 3-point shot will get to the 30-35 percent range.

Flagg has already been elite in the clutch this season for Dallas, but his success from outside in those moments hasn't always followed suit, yet he hit a clutch 3-pointer against Denver from the top of the key that was essential for Dallas in pulling away in the contest. It's clear Flagg has no hesitation from outside in most instances and isn't afraid of the moment, as more repetitions and fine-tuning on his shot form will eventually lead to him being a true three-level scorer.

Being so young, it's truly unprecedented for Flagg to be at such a high level on both ends of the floor already, but he's proven time and time again that he's on a special trajectory for the Mavericks. Flagg's 3-point shot is the clear next step in his game, so it's extremely encouraging that he's showing signs of taking that next step, considering he's shot under 25 percent from outside all season so far.

Flagg has been compared to the likes of Kawhi Leonard and Jayson Tatum in terms of the type of two-way ceiling he possesses, and games as he had versus Denver make these comparisons seem more plausible than ever, as Flagg has the athleticism and skill to be an MVP in the league once he gains a consistent stroke from outside.
