The Dallas Mavericks were looking to bounce back after a rough start in the Las Vegas Summer League. Tyrell Terry had 22 points, but the Sixers blew out the Mavs in their opener. Dallas was more competitive on Wednesday night, but the injury bug struck.
Terry suffered a groin strain in the third quarter that caused him to miss the remainder of the game. The 20-year-old was just finding his stride and showcasing his skill set in Vegas. It was a tough blow for the Mavericks’ summer league squad.
Here is a closer look at Terry and the Mavs performance in a back-and-forth game against the Utah Jazz on Aug. 11. Dallas made an impressive comeback in the fourth quarter after two starters were injured to force overtime. The Mavericks went on to lose in double overtime.

It was the second straight slow start for the Mavericks. The Jazz jumped out by double-digits before Dallas had a one-point. The Mavs closed the quarter strong to trail 18-17 after the opening ten minutes. Dallas must get off to better starts if they want to be successful in Las Vegas.
Mavericks’ summer league starter Tariq Owens suffered a knee injury in the first quarter that kept him out for the remainder of the game. Hopefully, it was not a serious injury for the 26-year-old, and he is back in action in the team’s next game.

Terry had a ten-point first half as the Mavericks held a 38-33 advantage at the break. Dallas picked up their play as the 20-year-old went three of six from the field. He also had this impressive finish in the second quarter.
Terry was injured in the third quarter and quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game with a groin strain. The 20-year-old was the leader for the Mavs in Las Vegas. It was a tough blow.
The Mavericks used a total team effort to stay in the game following Terry’s injury. They were outscored by ten points in the third quarter, but came back to grab the lead in the final minute. Dallas was in the driver’s seat until an Elijah Hughes triple tied it up to force overtime.
The extra session is just two minutes in summer league. The Mavs jumped out quickly, but sloppy play in the final minute allowed the Jazz to tie it. Utah nailed a free throw to win 81-80 in double overtime.
Eugene Omoruyi had a second stand out performance, including putting back a miss to push Dallas up by three with just under eight seconds remaining in regulation.
The 24-year-old finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, and one steal in 30 minutes of action. He drew ten free throws in the contest.
Robert Franks got hot on Wednesday night. He produced 17 points on six of 12 from the field. The 24-year-old hit five 3-pointers against the Jazz.
Hopefully, Tyrell Terry’s injury is not serious, and he will be able to play in the Dallas Mavericks next summer league against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. The Mavs could be extremely shorthanded if both Owens and Terry cannot play. Stay tuned for the latest updates as they become available.
