The Dallas Mavericks hired Hall of Fame point guard Jason Kidd to replace Rick Carlisle as head coach, and they believe it will usher in a new era. Kidd is bringing in a brand new coaching staff to help the Mavs take the next step. Dallas wants to jump into title contention after two straight first-round playoff exits.

Kidd spent the last two seasons as an assistant for the Los Angeles Lakers, but he has plenty of head coaching experience. The Hall of Famer led the Nets for one season and the Milwaukee Bucks for four. He had a hand in developing Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton as the Bucks made the playoffs twice with Kidd leading the way. The 48-year-old will be hoping his third time as head coach is the charm, and he can lead the Mavericks to their second championship in franchise history.

Kidd is already hard at work in his new gig. The Mavs held a press conference to introduce him and general manager Nico Harrison on July 15, but both men have already been at it. They are preparing for the draft on July 29 and free agency, which starts on Aug. 2. Kidd is not working to improve the players. He has an offseason assignment for fans too.

Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd gives fans some offseason work

Kidd shared the message for Mavs fans via the team’s official Twitter on July 19.

Get those voices prepared. The Dallas Mavericks are hoping they can be back to selling out the American Airlines Center again for the 2021-2022 season, and they want it to be loud.

Fans will not want to miss a second with Luka Doncic leading their charge. The 22-year-old superstar breaks record and becomes the youngest player to accomplish a feat on a near-nightly basis. Dallas supporters cannot afford to miss a second of the action. Doncic will be in the running for MVP as the Mavs look to take the next step as a team.

It will be interesting to see how coach Jason Kidd adjusts the Mavericks on both ends of the floor. He used an extremely aggressive blitzing defense in Milwaukee that had success early but was figured out. Will he implement a similar scheme in Dallas? Do the Mavs change up their offense? How can they maximize Luka Doncic and the rest of the talent on the roster? There are plenty of questions for J-Kidd to answer about his coaching style and philosophy this season.

First, an important offseason lies ahead for the Dallas Mavericks. They will be searching for ways to upgrade their roster around their 22-year-old superstar. Dallas can create $34 million in cap space, but it means letting Tim Hardaway Jr. walk in free agency. The new front office will have a plethora of important decisions to make in the weeks ahead. The results will be franchise-altering, so supporters must stay tuned.
