Dallas Mavericks react to Jamahl Mosley becoming Magic head coach

The Dallas Mavericks officially lost one of the best assistant coaches in the NBA on July 11 as Jamahl Mosley agreed to become the head coach of the Orlando Magic. It will be Mosley’s first NBA head coaching gig. He was with the Mavs since 2014 as he worked his way up to lead assistant.
It felt like Mosley would depart this offseason either way. After Rick Carlisle resigned as head coach, Mosley was under consideration for the role in Dallas. Ultimately, owner Mark Cuban selected Jason Kidd to lead the Mavericks next season. Mosley was a finalist for both the Magic and Wizards openings before landing the job in Orlando.
Jamahl Mosley is known as a player’s coach. He is currently working with the USA Select Team in Las Vegas as they help prepare the Senior National Team for the Olympics later this month. When news broke of Mosley agreeing with the Magic, the social media posts came flowing in. Let us take a closer look.

Luka Doncic offered his congrats on Twitter. Mosley worked closely with the 22-year-old superstar during his first three seasons in Dallas. Their tight relationship had many fans believing Mosley would be the Mavericks head coach next season.

The Orlando Magic sold off at the trade deadline and are just starting a total rebuild. They have two top eight selections in the 2021 NBA Draft. The Magic are going to add two young talents to their core of Markelle Fultz, Jonathan Isaac, Cole Anthony, and Wendell Carter Jr. Mosley will be tasked with developing those players and building a winner in Orlando.
