Step to Dallas Mavericks becoming title contenders this offseason: 5. Round out with vets

The final step in jumping into title contention would be rounding out the Mavs roster with veterans. Dallas traded for J.J. Redick at the deadline because they needed an experienced leader and sharpshooter. It did not work out. Redick suffered a season-ending injury, but the Mavericks know that championship teams have veterans coming off their bench.

There are several veterans that the Mavs could sign this summer. P.J Tucker, Dwight Howard, Nemanja Bjelica, Garrett Temple, Maurice Harkless, Austin Rivers, and more are all free agents that will be looking to contend for a championship. The Mavericks improving their roster is the key to a few veterans agreeing to play in Dallas for less because they have the opportunity to win.

Adding veterans at the end of the roster will give head coach Jason Kidd more options in the playoffs. Rick Carlisle quickly ran out against the LA Clippers because the Mavericks did not have enough depth. Improving their depth, while adding experience and leadership is the final step to getting Dallas back into title contention.
