Step to Dallas Mavericks becoming title contenders this offseason: 3. Make a trade

Luka Doncic and the newly signed All-Star is not quite enough to put the Mavs where they want to be next season. Dallas also needs to make a trade to push them over the line.

Kristaps Porzingis is the first player that jumps to fans minds. Remember, the Mavericks have to improve in making the deal. They are unlikely to sign two of the five premium free agents, so clearing cap space in a KP deal does not make a ton of sense. If the right trade is out there, Dallas will make it. The Mavs are likely better off with Porzingis on their roster next season.

They could work out a deal involving Dwight Powell, though. Dallas will have to give to get, but a trade that gives them an upgrade and gets Powell’s contract off their books could be massive. The Mavericks should be looking for pieces that are going to fit their roster. Dallas could use a defensive upgrade, more shooting, and a rim protector.

The Mavs cannot just trade to make a deal. They will be focused on adding the right players to improve the overall roster. Expect the Dallas Mavericks to make a trade to upgrade their talent this summer.
