The Dallas Mavericks made a head coaching change this offseason. Rick Carlisle resigned after 13 seasons on the bench in Dallas. He brought a championship to the city and left some massive shoes to fill. Hall of Fame point guard Jason Kidd was hired to replace Carlisle.

Many thought assistant coach Jamahl Mosley would get promoted. He has a close relationship with superstar Luka Doncic and filled in for Carlisle during his one-game quarantine in New York this season. Mosley has spent the last seven years in Dallas and worked his way up to be the top assistant.

Jamahl Mosley is on the verge of getting his first crack at being an NBA head coach. Here is a look at the latest, and what Mosley might bring to his new team.

Adrian Wojnarowski dropped the news that the Magic want Mosley to be their head coach on July 8.

The Magic had the third-worst record in the NBA this season, and they completely tore down their roster at the trade deadline. Orlando has a few pieces in place, including Jonathan Isaac, Markell Fultz, and Cole Anthony. They also have the fifth and eighth overall selections in the 2021 NBA Draft. The Magic will be acquiring talent, and Mosley will be tasked with developing those players.

Mosley worked closely with Luka Doncic since he arrived in Dallas. He had a hand in developing several Mavericks as they went through a short rebuild in Dirk Nowitzki’s final seasons. The 42-year-old first-time head coach will now be tasked with doing something similar in Orlando.

Jamahl Mosley also must assemble a coaching staff. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Dallas Mavericks assistants from last season. Will they stay under Jason Kidd? Do some follow Rick Carlisle to Indiana? Could others join Mosley staff in Orlando? It will be another storyline to follow this offseason.

It is a massive summer for the Dallas Mavericks. They plan on improving the roster around Luka Doncic and jumping into title contention. Stay tuned to see if they can make it happen.
