Piece the Dallas Mavericks need around Luka Doncic: 1. Secondary creator
This is the most important addition for the Mavs. In Luka’s three NBA seasons, Dallas has never had a secondary creator they trusted to play next to Doncic. Jalen Brunson and Tim Hardaway Jr. can handle the ball but are best at creating shots for themselves. The Mavericks need someone that can run simple plays and get others involved.
There figures to be plenty of options available, but none may be better than Kyle Lowry. The veteran point guard can score, space the floor, and has no issues playing on or off the ball. Lowry creates easy buckets and helps his team win. The Raptors had Kawhi Leonard, but they do not win the championship in 2019 without Lowry.
The Mavericks must find someone that can lighten Luka’s workload this offseason. Having a secondary creator will diversify the offense, get Doncic more rest, and gives the new head coach options with rotations.
How many of these pieces will the Dallas Mavericks put around Luka Docnic this offseason? Can they add enough to jump the Mavs into title contention? Dallas is closer than fans think, but the front office must make a few shrewd moves. Stay tuned for what is shaping up to be the most important offseason in Mavericks’ history.
