The Dallas Mavericks want to upgrade their roster this offseason. They lost in the first round of the playoffs to the LA Clippers for the second straight year. Luka Doncic was the best player in the series, but the supporting cast around him was not good enough.

The Mavs can create over $30 million in cap space this summer if they attempt to go that route. They are expected to be aggressive in both the free-agent and trade markets. Dallas wants to bring back Tim Hardaway Jr. this offseason and will be looking for upgrades.

Michael Scotto broke down the offseason situations for the Eastern Conference lottery teams on his HoopsHype podcast on June 10. He named the Mavericks and Charlotte Hornet as two potential teams executives believe will have interest in restricted free agent Jarrett Allen. Get the latest here.

Rumors: Execs believe Dallas Mavericks to have interest in Jarrett Allen

Scotto notes that despite the rumored interest from Charlotte and Dallas, Allen is expected to remain with the Cavaliers. Cleveland traded a first-round pick to acquire the 23-year-old big man in January, and they have the right to match any offer in free agency.

If the Mavs bring back Tim Hardaway Jr., they will be limited in what they can offer any free agent. Dallas will be down to their mid-level exception at $9.5 million a year. The Cavaliers would certainly match that offer. It is going to take a massive contract to pry the 6’11 big man from Cleveland. Do not expect the Mavericks to be the team signing him to that offer sheet.
