The Dallas Mavericks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year by the LA Clippers. They forced a Game 7 as Luka Doncic proved he is one of the best players in the NBA. The Mavericks have a superstar to build around, but plenty of questions need to be answered this offseason.

First on the agenda is inking the 22-year-old superstar to a rookie max extension. It will not start until the 2022-2023 season, but Dallas wants to get it done as soon as possible. The next order of business is building a championship contender around Luka.

The Mavs need to improve their roster. Luka Doncic went for 46 points, 14 assists, and seven rebounds in Game 7, but it was not enough. Dallas must upgrade their supporting cast on multiple fronts. Adding new players means others will be leaving. Here is a closer look at where they stand heading into the offseason.

Dallas Mavericks have decisions to make this offseason

The Mavs have nine players under contract for next season, plus Josh Richardson has an $11.6 million player option. They must decide on re-signing Tim Hardaway Jr. He has been outstanding during his two and half seasons in Dallas, but bringing him back eliminates the Mavericks cap space. Does Hardaway Jr. move the needle enough? Expect the Mavs to re-sign him because the free-agent crop is lacking in star talent.

Boban Marjanovic is also an unrestricted free agent, but the Dallas Mavericks are likely to bring back on a veteran minimum deal. His impacts on the court and in the locker room are valuable to the organization.

Here are the three players most unlikely to be back with the Dallas Mavericks for the 2021-2022 season.
