The Dallas Mavericks are catching fire and looking to make a deep playoff run this season. Superstar Luka Doncic is working way back into the MVP race as the Mavs keep climbing the standings. The organization will not be satisfied until they bring home their second championship, though.

Dallas has a chance to improve its roster this summer. They will have significant cap space for what could be the last time as Doncic’s rookie max extension is on the horizon in 2022. The Mavericks can create $34.4 million in space if they renounce their cap holds meaning Dallas will be searching for a third star on the free-agent market.

Fans had their sights set on Giannis Antetokounmpo over the last two years, but the Bucks star agreed to a max extension to stay in Milwaukee. The free-agent crop in 2021 has shrunk because of multiple extensions, but there is still plenty of talent available. Who will the Mavs target?

More. Is Tim Hardaway Jr. a long-term fit for the Mavs?

The Mavs are clear about the types of players they want to target. They desire shooters to space the floor for Luka Doncic. Dallas also wants to improve their perimeter defense and add a secondary creator to diversify their attack.

Josh Richardson, Tim Hardaway Jr., J.J. Redick, and Boban Marjanovic will all be unrestricted free agents at the end of the season. The Mavericks will have to fill those holes if they let those players walk.

Here are five soon-to-be free agents that Dallas Mavericks fans should keep eye on for the rest of the season.
