Dallas Mavericks rumors: Team discussing Norman Powell trade
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks could be a central figure in the trade market ahead of the March 25 deadline. They currently sit eighth in the tightly packed Western Conference. The Mavs want to be title contenders. They have a superstar in Luka Doncic but are searching for the pieces to make them an elite team.
Trade rumors have been circulating for weeks, but they have picked up steam ahead of the deadline. Multiple players including Evan Fournier have been linked to the Mavs. Will Dallas make a significant splash ahead of the deadline?
Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer linked the Mavericks as one of five teams discussing a Norman Powell trade ahead of the deadline. The Toronto Raptors have underperformed this season and could be looking to sell. Should the Mavs acquire Powell?
Rumors: Dallas Mavericks interested in Raptors wing Norman Powell
Powell has taken his game to another level this season. He averages 19.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 30.4 minutes per game. Powell is shooting 49.6 percent from the field, 44.4 percent on his threes, and 87.2 percent from the free-throw line. The 27-year-old has been outstanding.
He has an $11.6 million player option for next season, which Powell is expected to decline. If Toronto does not want to hand him a massive extension, they could look to move him before Thursday’s deadline. The Mavericks have cap space in the offseason and could view Norman Powell as the versatile two-way wing they need to take the next step.
The Raptors guard should have a robust market. Can Toronto get a first-round pick for Powell? Will some team blow them away with an offer? The Dallas Mavericks are light on tradeable draft picks, which could complicate their pursuit of Powell. They will be interested, but winning the bidding could be a different story.
