The Dallas Mavericks selected Josh Green with their first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Most thought the organization would trade the selection for a veteran that could help them win now. The Mavs decided to take Green for his 3-and-D potential.
It has been a slow start for the 20-year-old in the NBA. He was limited to mop-up duty early before being thrust into a nightly role as the Mavericks dealt with COVID issues. The team is back healthy, and Green has not played by coach’s decision in eight of the last nine games.
The Mavericks sent three of their four rookies to the G League bubble at the start. All three have had massive performances and gained valuable experience. Dallas decided to transfer Josh Green to the G League on Feb. 17. What should fans expect from the 20-year-old wing in Orlando?
What should Dallas Mavericks fans expect from Josh Green in the G League?
The Texas Legends opted out of the G League bubble in Orlando, so Green was assigned to the Salt Lake City Stars where he joins Mavericks teammate Tyler Bey. Expect plenty of minutes and production from Green. Bey is averaging 20 points per in his three games with the Stars.
Green should bring defense. Mavs fans are hoping he knocks down jumpers and gives Salt Lake City a boost in transition. Green showed flashes in his limited minutes this season. It will be interesting to see what he can do with an extended run in the G League bubble.
