Dallas Mavericks: 5 reasons for optimism after a slow start
By Tyler Watts
Why Dallas Mavericks fans should be optimistic: 1. Luka Doncic
Having a superstar is one of the keys to making a deep playoff run. Luka Doncic is one of the five best players in the league. He finished fourth in MVP voting last season. Doncic leads the league in triple-doubles and assists. He is second in points scored. The advanced metrics love him too as Luka sits fourth in the NBA in both box score plus/minus and value over replacement player (VORP).
Blazers superstar Damian Lillard brought his team back from a similar slow start last season. They had 8 wins in their first 21 games before qualifying and winning the play-in against the Grizzlies in the bubble. Portland lost to the eventual champion Lakers in the first round of the playoffs in five games, but Lillard led them back.
Expect Luka Doncic to pilot the Mavs even further. No player can match the 21-year-old’s blend of scoring, playmaking, rebounding, and highlight making. He is a unique talent. Fans should be optimistic that Doncic will lead his team to the playoffs and continuing winning games there.
The best is yet to come for the Dallas Mavericks. They are just starting to gel and find their groove. Expect improvements each game as Dallas continues to pick up steam. Do not miss it.
