Dallas Mavericks: Shaquille O’Neal on Luka Doncic and the Mavs

The Dallas Mavericks are not where they want to be right now. Superstar Luka Doncic was the favorite to win MVP coming into the season. He is averaging over 27 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists per game, but the team has just eight wins in their first 20 games. Injuries and absences are partially to blame as Doncic is frustrated with the team’s performance.

The Mavericks have a generational talent. The 21-year-old continues to set records and make history. The organization must find the pieces that make Dallas a consistent winner. Kristaps Porzingis has to  stay healthy. The Mavs would love to add a third star and push their way into title contention.

Shaquille O’Neal gave his thoughts on Luka Doncic and the Mavericks in a recent interview that featured in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Let us take a closer look.

O’Neal was asked his thoughts on Luka. See his response below.

"“I love watching him play because he is the true definition of a great player. The true definition of a great player isn’t always about stats and what you can do. It is about getting the other players involved. He is a great passer. He’s a great showman of the game. I have nothing negative to say about Luka.”"

He followed up with what Dallas needs to do to build a winner around Doncic.

"“If you put two more superstars with him, he definitely win. Mark knows what to do. In the summertime, look for some of these disgruntled superstars because Luka can’t do it by himself. Nobody can ever do it by himself. He needs somebody out there with him.”"

The Mavericks were searching for a third star to pair with Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis last offseason, but they did not have the cap space or draft picks to make it happen. Dallas has money available and could dangle two first-rounders plus pick swaps in a trade. Expect them to be aggressive in landing a third star and trying to dominate the next five years.

Luka Doncic received high praise from the Hall of Fame big man. He is a special talent. Hopefully, he brings the championship back to Dallas. Do not miss a second of the action.
