The Dallas Mavericks are building something special. Luka Doncic is already in the running for MVP before turning 22 years old. Kristaps Porzingis brings a unique skill set to the team as another capable superstar. The Mavs have a strong core of role players to round out their roster too.
There is no question that Luka is the best player under 25 years old. He is in the running for top talent in the NBA, and no other young player can match that. Do the Mavericks have the best young core, though? What other Mavs qualify for the list?
Bleacher Report ranked Dallas with the second-best young core on Jan. 23. Let us take a look at their ranking and debate where the Mavs should have landed.
Dallas Mavericks second in Bleacher Report’s ranking of best young cores
The Mavs only have four players under 25 on their 15-man roster. Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson bring experience to the group with rookies Josh Green and Tyrell Terry rounding it out. Dallas ranked second on the back of Luka. Kristaps Porzingis turned 25 in August, so he did not qualify.
The Celtics ranked atop the list with both of their young stars in the rankings. The Suns were third with Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton leading the charge. Dallas has the best young star, but it is hard to argue they have the best young core. Jalen Brunson needs to take another step forward, and the rookies have to standout for the Mavericks to take over the top spot.
The Dallas Mavericks do not care about having the top young talent. They want to contend for a championship this season. It has been a rough start with injuries wreaking havoc on the roster, but the Mavs have the talent. They need to get and stay healthy to realize their potential. Stay tuned to see if they can make it happen.
