Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks win over Hornets: 5. Boban and the bench
The Mavs were without five key rotation players on Wednesday night, which created opportunities for some guys that rarely see minutes. James Johnson, Boban Marjanovic, Josh Green, and Trey Burke all responded off the Mavs bench. Each was at least plus-seven during their time on the court as Dallas won the battle of the second units 28 to 26 in Charlotte.
Boban gave the Mavericks eight points and five rebounds in 15 minutes of action. He came in and made plays as he always does. The 7’4 big man is the perfect third center. Expect him to make an impact whenever he is needed.
James Johnson had an outstanding game. He finished with seven points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and three blocks in 26 minutes of action. The veteran made some key defensive plays and continues to be a productive role player for the Mavericks.
Trey Burke did not have his shot going, but he provided some key playmaking in the second unit. His four assists should not go unnoticed.
The Dallas Mavericks’ entire bench stepped up against the Hornets and keyed the blowout victory. Rookie Josh Green even made a significant impact.
