The Dallas Mavericks signed free agent big man DeAndre Jordan this offseason and here is what to expect from him this season.
If you’re a vivid Mavericks fan, then you’re as happy and surprised as me. I literally had to take it in for a moment after Marc Stein confirmed that DeAndre Jordan agreed to a one-year deal. Note Stein’s tweet with the use of “verbally.” It was expected for that use of a word to come by.
If you’re not aware of the events that occurred back in 2015, let’s recap: DJ agreed to a deal with the Mavericks, but a few days later after the agreement a host of Clippers players, which also included coach Doc Rivers, stormed to his house and wouldn’t leave until he rejoins Lob City. Unfortunately for the Mavs, he backed out of his verbal agreement to join the Clippers on the same deal.
Then came the bitterness. Any game Los Angeles had shown up at the American Airlines Center would follow with a right amount of booing and displeasure when the big man had any possession of the ball.
Luckily, players and owners see the concept of forgive and forget as we now see him in the Mavericks jersey four years later. It gives you the feeling of rejoicing and makes you realize that Dallas has a greater chance than previously to contend for the playoffs. Obviously, there needs to be some video proof showing Jordan in a Big D jersey before we take it that far. As of right now, we can only dream.
While we’re still dreaming, we should start thinking of how the big man would make an impact on the team. Let’s take a dive and see some expectations for DeAndre Jordan’s debut season with the Dallas Mavericks.
