Dallas Mavericks power ranking roundup: Where are they heading into week 2?

The Dallas Mavericks are fresh off a 51-point victory over the LA Clippers in one of the biggest blowouts in NBA history. They got a bit of revenge from the playoffs as everything seemed to click for the first time this season. Luka Doncic figures to lead one of the best offenses in the league for the second straight year, but there are still defensive questions for the Mavs.

Dallas finished the first week at 1-2. They got off to a slow start and could not come back against the Suns in Phoenix in the season opener. The Mavericks were blowout by the Lakers on Christmas day before dominating the Clippers on Sunday. They have not played a home game and started the season against three teams projected to make the playoffs.

Where did two losses in their first three games put the Mavericks in the power rankings? Let us take a look at three different publications to see where Dallas landed.

Dallas Mavericks power ranking roundup: Where do they stand heading into week 2?

NBA.com held the Mavs steady at ninth in their weekly power rankings. They noted Josh Richardson’s early impact and that Dallas is sixth in net-rating in the early going.

The Mavericks slipped to 12th in ESPN’s power rankings. They were tenth to start the season but dropped behind the Suns, Pacers, and Jazz.

The Athletic bumped (subscription required) Dallas down to 14th this week. They also had the Mavs tenth at the start of the season.

All three produce weekly power rankings, but it seems like they got dinged a bit too much for the two losses and most overlooked Sunday’s impressive win.

The Mavericks have an opportunity to ride that momentum as they face the Hornets, Heat, and Bulls this week. Dallas should win two if not all three of those games. Having an undefeated week could push the Mavericks back into the top ten to start week three. Stay tuned.
