Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks season opener vs. Suns:  2. Luka is unstoppable

Luka Doncic had an off night. He missed his first six field-goal attempts including a few easy ones. The 21-year-old failed to attack after getting Deandre Ayton switched onto him multiple times in the first quarter. Luka quickly decided that he needed to get inside and make things happen.

Doncic finished 11 of 26 from the field and missed all six of 3-point attempts. Mikal Bridges and the Suns defended well against the Mavericks superstar. Fans might not know it by the box score, though. Luka finished with 32 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and one turnover in 36 minutes of action. Some NBA players would kill to have a 30-point game, and Doncic does it on an off night. See the 21-year-old’s best plays here.

Luka took the blame for the loss postgame including mentioning he needs to improve his shot selection. The Mavericks star was three of four in clutch time, but the one miss was an ill-advised step back 3-pointer with just over one minute remaining. Expect Doncic to improve his shot selection and become unstoppable in crunch time too.

Luka Doncic is set to have a monster game against LeBron James and the Lakers. It is the Mavericks superstar’s first of many Christmas Day games, and he is facing his idol. That sounds like a recipe for an insane stat line from the 21-year-old.
