Dallas Mavericks depth chart to start regular season: Point guard

The Mavs lead ball-handler is one of the positions most set in stone. Here is a closer look.

Starter: Luka Doncic

The 21-year-old superstar is the favorite to win MVP heading into the year. He made first-team All-NBA last season and should take another leap in 2021. Doncic is an unquestioned top-five player in the league. The present and future are bright with Luka leading the Mavericks.

Backup: Jalen Brunson

Fans should expect Brunson to have a career-year. His minutes will be limited by Doncic, but the Mavs second unit needs a floor general that can get other players involved. Expect Brunson and Burke to give the bench two strong catalysts.

Brunson playing next to Luka for stretches will be the key to the 24-year-old earning more minutes. Expect him to be limited to 15 per game to start things off.

Third-string: Tyrell Terry

The Mavericks drafted Terry with the 31st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. The 20-year-old will not be part of the nightly rotation but gives Dallas a strong shooter at the end of their bench. Terry might be best playing off the ball, but the Mavs will attempt to develop him as a point guard.

Fans should expect Luka Doncic to play 33 to 35 minutes per game with Brunson handling the remaining time at the position to start the 2020-2021 regular season.
