Dallas Mavericks waive Courtney Lee: Set roster heading into regular season
The Dallas Mavericks shook up their roster a bit this offseason. They traded for Josh Richardson and James Johnson, added four talented rookies, and signed Wesley Iwundu. The Mavs parted ways with franchise legend J.J. Barea as they looked to get a bit younger and more versatile.
Dallas was not done making moves. They had 20 players in training camp but had to get down to 17 before opening night. The Mavericks made their final move on Saturday.
They signed Courtney Lee after J.J. Barea was waived. It gave the veteran a chance to play in the final preseason game and showcase his talent, but he was never long for the roster. Coach Rick Carlisle let it be known that the Mavericks waived Lee on Saturday, which was the last move after waiving Devonte Patterson and Freddie Gillespie. Let us look at their final roster.

The Mavericks have 17 players under contract this season. Rookies Tyler Bey and Nate Hinton are on two-way deals, but figure to see plenty of time in Dallas after the NBA relaxed the restrictions on those contracts. Here is a breakdown of their final 15-man roster.
Guards- Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson, Tyrell Terry
Wings- Josh Richardson, Tim Hardaway Jr., Trey Burke, Josh Green, Wesley Iwundu
Forwards- Kristaps Porzingis, Dorian Finney-Smith, Maxi Kleber, James Johnson
Centers- Dwight Powell, Willie Cauley-Stein, Boban Marjanovic
