Dallas Mavericks: Kristaps Porzingis is increasing his activity in practice

The Dallas Mavericks and their fans cannot wait to get Kristaps Porzingis back on the floor. The Unicorn looked unstoppable in the playoffs. He dropped 34 points and 13 rebounds in his final game before a knee injury ended his first NBA postseason run.

KP missed the Mavericks’ final three playoff games including two losses which ended their season. He had surgery in October to repair a torn meniscus. Porzingis was ruled out until January from the first day of training camp.

Fans caught a glimpse of KP shooting on the floor during warmups of their final preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. That prompted a question for Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle where he offered an update on the Unicorn’s status.

Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis ups his activity in practice: Won’t play until January

Carlisle had this to say about KP on Dec. 18.

"“His activity increases every day. Today, he did some 5-on-0 stuff and some non-contract defensive work as well. The plan at this time is for him to travel.”"

That means Porzingis will be joining the Mavs in Phoenix and Los Angeles for their first road trip of the regular season. Carlisle offered more about how the Unicorn has looked so far.

"“He looks good. He’s enthusiastic. He’s got a great vibe about how’s feeling and how things are progressing. There is no timetable yet. It is going to be at least January, but there are a lot of good signs.”"

It was good to see Porzingis on the court, and the fact that he is increasing his activity is a positive sign. Expect him to miss the first couple of weeks of the regular season. The Mavericks will also limit his minutes after his return. Remember, KP missed all of training camp. They do not want him out there playing 30-plus minutes in his first game back.

Dallas Mavericks fans should expect a monster season from Kristaps Porzingis. The Unicorn is comfortable in the team’s system and will be given the green light to dominate. Fans will not want to miss it, so please stay tuned.
