Dallas Mavericks: How does Tyrell Terry fit with his new team?

The Dallas Mavericks had a stellar 2020 draft. They had clear goals heading in and made sure each pick fit the bill. The Mavs drafted Josh Green for wing defense and Tyler Bey for positional versatility, but the value was adding the potential steal of the draft in Stanford’s lights-out shooter, Tyrell Terry.

Dallas traded Seth Curry to the Philadelphia 76ers for two-way wing Josh Richardson on draft night. Curry’s minutes are available for Terry, assuming he steps up to the challenge. If all goes as planned, the 20-year-old is primed for a pivotal role in the high-powered Mavericks’ offense.

On top of the Richardson trade, rotational pieces Delon Wright and Justin Jackson were shipped out for James Johnson. This added another enforcer to the lineup and freed up more guard minutes. Terry has a unique opportunity to show Mavs coach Rick Carlisle why he belongs in the rotation, despite Dallas needing to find minutes for Trey Burke and Jalen Brunson.

Other teams may have been concerned with his size and strength pre-draft, but Terry gained 15 pounds and grew an inch since his last college game. This alleviates any concerns the Mavs might have had going into training camp.

Make no mistake, Terry is an undersized shooting guard, but his offensive capabilities will have other NBA teams kicking themselves for letting him slip to the second round.

Let’s take a closer look at Tyrell Terry’s game to determine how he fits with the Dallas Mavericks.
