Dallas Mavericks rumors: Mavs interested in Danny Green

The Dallas Mavericks almost signed Danny Green in the 2019 offseason. The decision hinged on what Kawhi Leonard was going to do. If Leonard chose the Lakers, Green would have been a Maverick. Instead, he picked the Clippers leaving room for Green on the eventual champions.

The Mavs almost traded for the veteran 3-and-D wing at the deadline, per Brad Townsend. That again hinged on a decision by another player that ended up choosing the Clippers. Dallas reportedly offered the 31st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft for Green back in February.

Danny Green was dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Dennis Schroder deal. Fans can see how that trade impacts the Mavericks here. OKC is rebuilding meaning Green is likely to be available. Brad Townsend again has the scoop for Mavs fans.

Rumors: Dallas Mavericks remain interested in Danny Green

Townsend wrote a story for the Dallas Morning News that featured all the latest tidbits on the Mavericks’ offseason (subscription required). He discussed the team’s pursuit of Jrue Holiday, their interest in Danilo Gallinari, and more in the piece.

Townsend notes that a source says the Mavs remain interested in Danny Green. He links the Mavericks 2020 second-round pick as the possible compensation in the potential deal.

The trade 100 percent makes sense for Dallas. I wrote about why the Mavs should acquire Danny Green this offseason here. He has championship experience and gives Dallas a defensive upgrade that provides floor spacing. The 35-year-old is the perfect fit next to Luka Doncic. Green has one year left on his contract, which keeps the Mavs options open in the 2021 offseason.

Fans will have to wait and see what happens. There will be plenty more rumors flying around, but expect the Dallas Mavericks to upgrade their roster this offseason. Stay tuned to find out how.
