Dallas Mavericks: Kristaps Porzingis will miss the start of training camp
The Dallas Mavericks want to jump into title contention next season. Luka Doncic had his superstar breakout in year two, and Kristaps Porzingis was playing his best basketball during the Walt Disney World restart. The Mavs are a force that should continue improving.
Dallas was giving the LA Clippers all they could handle, but an untimely injury to KP gave the opposition the upper hand. Porzingis had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in October. Keeping him healthy for the 2021 playoffs is one of the Mavericks’ top priorities coming into the season.
GM Donnie Nelson was on 105.3 The Fan on Nov. 16 to discuss all things Mavericks heading into a wild week in the NBA. He gave fans an update on the Unicorn’s status. Let us take a closer look.
Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis will miss the start of training camp
Brad Townsend tweeted the quote from Nelson on KP’s injury. See it below.
That should come as no surprise. It likely means Porzingis had a meniscus repair this offseason. That surgery takes longer to recover from but is better for the Unicorn’s long-term knee health. The Mavericks have no reasons to rush him back. Luka will have them winning games. Dallas needs KP in the playoffs to make a deep run.
Townsend later update fans with more from Donnie Nelson.
Do not be surprised to see the Mavs be cautious with him the entire year. Porzingis might not return until January or later. He is likely to sit one-half of back-to-backs and be rested periodically. Do not be alarmed by that. It is all part of a long-term plan to keep him healthy.
Fans should be prepared for a crazy week of NBA action as there will be trades, the draft, and free agency. The Smoking Cuban will have all things Dallas Mavericks covered, so please check back with us often.
