Dallas Mavericks rumors: Knicks interested in Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

The Dallas Mavericks signed Michael Kidd-Gilchrist back in February after he was bought out of the remainder of his contract by the Charlotte Hornets. Dallas need a defensive upgrade, and the 6’6 wing delivered by spending key minutes guarding Kawhi Leonard in the playoffs.

Kidd-Gilchrist is an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The Mavs will be looking to upgrade their roster, and replacing the 27-year-old with a better two-way player is one option. It will be interesting to see how that plays out this fall.

Expect plenty of NBA rumors to flying around over the next two weeks. Kidd-Gilchrist made the headlines on Nov. 6. Let us take a closer.

Rumors: Knicks interested in Dallas Mavericks forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Marc Berman of the New York Post reported the Knick have “interest” in signing Kidd-Gilchrist this offseason. It should come as no surprise that New York wants to improve its defense. They finished 23rd in defensive rating last season and hired Tom Thibodeau who is known for his prowess on that end of the floor.

Berman had this Mavericks note in the piece regarding MKG.

"“Sources said Dallas is leaning towards letting him walk.”"

The Mavs are hungry to add a third star this offseason. That will have to happen via trade, but expect Dallas to fill the rest of their roster out with capable role players. The Mavericks need to improve their defense but do not want to sacrifice their number one offense. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist does not provide much on the offensive end.
