Dallas Mavericks get Dennis Schroder in hypothetical trade: Should they do it?

The Dallas Mavericks are prepared to explore every avenue in improving their roster this offseason. Luka Doncic led the team to the playoffs, but a first-round exit will no longer be as a successful season. The 21-year-old is on pace to become an all-time great, and the Mavs want to build a title contender around him immediately.

Expect Dallas to be active in the trade market. They have reportedly made everyone not named Doncic or Kristaps Porzingis available in hopes of acquiring a third star this offseason. Their lack of tradable draft picks could hurt in that hunt. The Mavericks cannot move their 2020 first-rounder until after the draft and are barred from swapping another first until 2025 because of the Stepien Rule. Will that force the Mavs to shift their thinking?

The more likely scenario is the Mavericks acquire multiple role players that improve their roster in 2021. Dennis Schroder could be one target on the trade market.

Why Dallas Mavericks should target Dennis Schroder

Schroder was a finalist for the Sixth Man of the Year in 2020 as he averaged 18.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game playing in Oklahoma City. Nobody expected the Thunder to make the playoffs, but they did in part because of Schroder’s exceptional play.

He would give Dallas a secondary creator and ball-handler that gets buckets. Fans can read more about why the Mavericks should trade for Schroder here.

Let us look at a hypothetical deal laid out by All Things Mavs that could get Dennis Schroder on the Dallas Mavericks to determine if the team should make the move this offseason.
