Dallas Mavericks: Kristaps Porzingis and Maxi Kleber produce 3 of restart’s best blocks

The Dallas Mavericks have two of the best shot blockers in the NBA. Kristaps Porzingis finished sixth in the league by swatting 2.0 per game. He is the more traditional rim protector. Maxi Kleber was 24th with more help-side and perimeter rejections.

Neither man is the flashiest shot swatter. They are not rejecting the ball into the stands or celebrating after a block. The Mavs big men protect the rim and move on to the next play.

That does not mean their rejections are not highlight-worthy. Porzingis and Kleber both made the NBA’s best blocks from the Walt Disney World restart. Let us take a closer look.

Dallas Mavericks bigs Kristaps Porzingis and Maxi Kleber among best blocks from restart

The NBA’s best blocks from Orlando featured three Mavs plays. It starts with a KP chase down swat just over ten minutes into the video. Kleber takes over for the final two blocks. One against Montrezl Harrell in the playoffs, and the other a beautiful rejection off a drive versus the Jazz during the seeding games. Fans can see the entire 21-plus minute video below.

Expect both Mavs big men to block a ton of shots in 2021. Porzingis consistently averaged 2.0 blocks per game for the entire season, which should carry over to next year. Kleber averaged more blocks per-36 in 2019 than 2020, in part because of the addition of KP. There is some untapped potential for Kleber to increase his blocks next season as the Mavs attempt to vault into title contention.

It promises to be a fun and exciting season for Dallas Mavericks supporters. Luka Doncic will have them back in the playoffs and ready to make a deep run. Looking for news, opinion, and analysis on your favorite team? Check back to The Smoking Cuban for daily content on the Mavs.
