Dallas Mavericks rumors: Teams push for a third star now and wants to move up in draft

The Dallas Mavericks returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Luka Doncic became a superstar that finished fourth in the MVP voting and earned first-team All-NBA honors as a 21-year-old. The future is bright in Dallas, and the Mavericks want to build a championship contender in 2021.

News broke on Friday that the NBA is planning on starting the season in December. That means the kickoff is less than two months. Teams will be sprinting to round out their roster and begin training camp in early December.

Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News shared a few Mavericks rumors on Oct. 27 (subscription required). Let us take a closer look.

Dallas Mavericks willing to do what it takes to acquire a third star now

According to Townsend, the Mavs want to add a third star before the start of the 2020-2021 season and are willing to whatever it takes to make it happen. That includes taking on salary and trading the necessary pieces not named Luka Doncic or Kristaps Porzingis.

Townsend also shared that the Mavericks are interested in trading up into the lottery in the 2020 NBA Draft. That was a surprising development in the piece.

The Mavs should grab a third star now if possible. Fans know Dallas has struck out numerous times in free agency with Dirk Nowitzki leading the charge. The Mavericks GOAT is one of the all-time greats, so there are no guarantees on the open market.

The offseason just got a bit more exciting for Dallas Mavericks fans. It will be interesting to see if the Mavs can find a third star. Expect the team to be active and exploring every avenue to improve their roster. Stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest plus analysis on all of their offseason moves.
