Dallas Mavericks: Dirk Nowitzki continues to give back

Dallas Mavericks fans made it through the first season since 1998 without Dirk Nowitzki on the team’s roster. Luka Doncic led the Mavs to the playoffs, but it was not the same without the seven-footer. Nowitzki led the team for two decades and became one of the all-time greats in Dallas.

The Mavericks GOAT is a massive part of the community too. He has accomplished more off the court than on it. The novel coronavirus pandemic has not slowed down Dirk, either.

Let us take a look at his latest endeavor plus a throwback to the Mavs celebrating a well-deserved honor by Nowitzki.

Dirk is partnering with his foundation, the North Texas Food Bank, and the Mark Cuban Foundation to give food to those in need. Oct. 22 was the first of many handouts leading into the holidays. Fans can hear Dirk talking about the project here courtesy of the Dallas Morning News.

Nowitzki also shared a special moment with a couple of children that supporters can watch here.

That was not the only headline the Mavericks GOAT made on Thursday. The team celebrated the first anniversary of the city of Dallas naming a street after Nowitzki. Fans can see a few photos from the event below.

Dirk turned down an offer to coach with his longtime friend and former teammate Steve Nash in Brooklyn this offseason. He wanted to stay in Dallas and spend more time with his family. When Nowitzki gets back into basketball, expect it to be with the Mavericks in some capacity. They will find a role that interests and excites the team’s GOAT. Fans are looking forward to that day.
