Why a free agent would want to sign with the Dallas Mavericks

The Mavs check a lot of boxes. Assuming Tim Hardaway Jr. accepts his player option, the team will only have their mid-level exception plus minimum deals to hand out in free agency. Players will not be coming because Dallas overpays. The Mavericks will be searching for role players that fill gaps in their roster.

The number one reason to sign with the Mavs is Luka Doncic. Look at this season, Doncic helped Tim Hardaway Jr., Maxi Kleber, Seth Curry, and Dorian Finney-Smith all have career years. The Mavericks want to preserve cap space for the 2021 offseason meaning they will not be handing out long-term contracts. Signing a one-year deal with Dallas and producing your best numbers should be exciting for any role player.

The Mavs will be back in the playoffs and could be pushing for a title too. Veterans that want to get into the playoffs and have a chance a deep run will be seriously considering the Mavericks.

Some experienced players sign with teams hoping to push them over the top. Look at Paul Millsap in Denver as an example. There is an opportunity for that in Dallas because the free agent is joining a solid young core that is hungry to take the next step.
