Dallas Mavericks: Could they trade for Marcus Smart? Will the Mavs?
The Dallas Mavericks are back. They made the playoffs for the first time since 2016 and proved they are going to be a force for years to come. Luka Doncic took his incredible play to another level in the postseason. The 21-year-old superstar gives the Mavs a chance in every game. Fans will always wonder if they would have pulled the playoff upset with a healthy Kristaps Porzingis.
The Mavericks were a scrappy overachieving bunch this season, but there will expectations in 2021. Luka already let fans know he plans on winning a title. To make it a realistic goal, the front office will need to add a few pieces and the current Mavs must continue to improve this offseason. It is doable, but will they gamble with a max contract slot available in 2021? That is the question of the offseason in Dallas.
The Mavericks would love to add a strong perimeter defender that gives the team toughness this offseason. Locking in that and a secondary creator are at the top of the team’s offseason wish list. One player that immediately jumps to mind that would fill both needs is Marcus Smart.
