Dallas Mavericks: Dwight Powell updates fans on his recovery from Achilles surgery

The Dallas Mavericks made Dwight Powell the primary starting center for the first time his career this season because they loved his ability as a roll man playing off Luka Doncic. Powell responded by averaging 9.4 points and 5.7 rebounds on 63.8 percent shooting from the field. It led to an outstanding 65.9 effective field goal percentage. The Mavs were 27-15 during the opening stretch with Powell as the starter.

The entire organization suffered a devastating blow on Jan. 21 when DP tore his Achilles against the LA Clippers. Everyone knew instantly that it was serious. The Mavericks quickly confirmed a torn Achilles with Powell having surgery. The 29-year-old traveled with the team to Orlando but did not play in the restart as he continued his rehab. The hope is Powell will be ready on the opening night of the 2021 season.

He met with the media on Oct. 8 after being one of five recipients of the NBA Community Assist Award. Powell gave fans an update on his recovery and current playing status, so let us take a closer look.
