Dallas Mavericks should be looking to sign Danilo Gallinari this offseason

The Dallas Mavericks will be looking to add pieces this offseason. There is still a ways to go before free agency kicks off, but the moves and power rankings are already a topic. The Mavs are one of the top ten contenders, and their bubble performance gives everyone hope for next season.

To make the jump into title contention, the Mavericks need to add additional talent. They have two of the most promising young stars in the league and a solid cast, but Dallas must acquire another piece or two.

Will the Mavs have the money to make those moves happen? Let us take a look.

Dallas Mavericks have cap figures coming off the books

For starters, the Mavs will have Courtney Lee’s roughly $12 million in cap space coming off. Everyone is operating under the assumption that Tim Hardaway Jr. will opt-in for the final year of his contract, but his salary will just over $1 million less than it was in the 2019-2020 season.

The contracts of J.J. Barea, Justin Patton, and Ryan Broekhoff are also set to expire, providing the Mavs with about $5.5 million in savings.

There are other options for small amounts too. Willie Cauley-Stein has a player option just over $2.2 million. The team also has an option on Jalen Brunson which they will pick up.

The Mavs are in a unique situation because they are a few pieces away from championship contention with a young core. The Denver Nuggets showed us this year what a budding underrated team can accomplish when it takes the league by surprise.
