Dallas Mavericks: Willie Cauley-Stein is improving his offensive game

The Dallas Mavericks traded for Willie Cauley-Stein in January. They needed a roll man and rim protector to replace Dwight Powell after he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. Cauley-Stein offered more rebounding too. Things did not work out as planned, though.

Trill struggled to find his footing in Dallas partially because the Mavs moved Kristaps Porzingis to the five after Powell’s injury, and he caught fire. It was hard to take him out. The Mavericks were trying to find minutes for Maxi Kleber, Boban Marjanovic, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist too. Cauley-Stein missed seven games before the hiatus and opted out of the restart. He averaged 5.2 points and 4.6 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per over 13 games played.

That creates questions about Cauley-Stein’s future with the Mavs. He has a player option for next season at just over $2.2 million. Will Trill opt-in or decide to test the free agent market? Fans can read more here. Regardless, Cauley-Stein is working on his game including improving his finishing inside. Let us take a closer look.
