Dallas Mavericks rumors: Team interested in Chris Paul

The Dallas Mavericks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, but not before they pushed the title favorite LA Clippers to six games. Luka Doncic proved his superstar status in the postseason including sinking this unforgettable game-winner.

The Mavs will be looking to take the next step in 2021. They expect plenty of internal growth. Luka will be better than ever next season. Kristaps Porzingis should take another step forward. The supporting cast needs to improve too. Dallas is still one or two pieces away from being title contenders.

Expect the Mavericks to do everything in their power to acquire that before Doncic’s rookie deal expires. They are building something special. The Mavs want that to end with at least one championship. The desire to improve also sparks plenty of rumors. Let us take a look at the latest.

Dallas Mavericks are rumored to be interested in Chris Paul

The following tweet emerged on Thursday afternoon that has the Mavs as one of six teams interested in acquiring Chris Paul from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Paul was fantastic this season. He averaged 17.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 1.6 steals while leading the Thunder to the playoffs. It was an incredible year for CP3. Every team should have some interest in acquiring him.

Do not put a ton of stock in this rumor, though. First, it was not confirmed by any of the Mavericks insiders. Second, Paul is set to make over $41 million in 2021 and 2022. He would be 37 years old at the end of his contract. The Mavs want to be players in free agency in 2021. Acquiring Paul dashes those hopes and gives them a shorter window to contend with a big three.

Expect the Dallas Mavericks to improve their roster this offseason. Stay tuned to see how they get it done.
